THE ART OF DOING NOTHING: AN INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
13.30 – 16.00
MR. DUNCAN MOSS
lecturer in Clinical Psychology (University of Plymouth)
Practices of mindfulness meditation have been around for thousands of years, in many traditional cultures and spiritual traditions, particularly Buddhism. In recent years meditation has become an increasingly accepted therapeutic approach in health care in th UK and America.
This workshop will introduce mindfulness and explore how mindfulness might be of interest as a way of slowing down and becoming more aware of our moment by moment expereince of being alive. Rather than simply being ’another technique’ to treat people with physical or emotional difficulties, mindfulness could be seen as a resource for anyone wanting to look at their own mind. The workshop will be informal and with space for conversation and group discussion and questions, as well as a chance to try mindfulness practices.
